High-Performance Power, Control & Building Wire Solutions
THHN, THWN-2, and XHHW-2 multiconductor cables provide versatile, durable power and control transmission across commercial, industrial, and utility infrastructure. Engineered to combine multiple insulated conductors within a heavy-duty outer sheath, these multiconductor power and control cables streamline installation while resisting heat, moisture, oil, and mechanical stress better than individually pulled single conductors.
Consolidated Electronic Wire & Cable brings more than 100 years of wire and cable manufacturing experience to this expanding line of building wire solutions, producing THHN cable, THWN-2 cable, and XHHW-2 cable built for harsh environments and demanding power applications. Below, we break down what sets our multiconductor cable line apart, the configurations available, and where these products get specified most.
Key Features and Benefits of Our THHN, THWN-2 & XHHW-2 Cables
Our multiconductor cable line carries a 90 °C rating in both wet and dry locations, paired with flame-retardant outer jackets built to hold up under sustained thermal and mechanical stress. THHN cable and THWN-2 cable use tough PVC insulation with a smooth nylon skin coat, which gives the conductor high dielectric strength, resistance to petroleum products, and a low-friction surface for easier conduit pulls.
XHHW-2 cable takes a different approach. Its thermoset XLPE insulation delivers stronger thermal stability and moisture resistance, along with better protection against stress cracking in severe environments than PVC alone can offer.
Many of our multiconductor configurations also carry Type TC and TC-ER tray cable ratings, so they’re permitted for direct exposure in cable trays and open raceway installations under NEC standards.
Consolidating individual conductors into one jacketed assembly cuts labor time significantly and simplifies electrical layouts that would otherwise need separate conduit runs for each wire. Every cable in this line meets the following standards:
- UL 83 (Thermoplastic-Insulated Wires and Cables, THHN/THWN-2)
- UL 44 (Thermoset-Insulated Wires and Cables, XHHW-2)
- UL 1277 (Electrical Power and Control Tray Cables, Type TC/TC-ER)
- UL 1581 / IEEE 1202 / FT4 flame rating
- NEC Article 336 and Article 310 compliant
- RoHS compliant and made in the USA
Multiconductor Cable Offerings from Consolidated Electronic Wire & Cable
Our THHN multiconductor cable and THWN-2 cable are available in a wide range of guages plus color-coded conductors in bare or tinned copper, under an overall PVC or TPE jacket rated 600V and 90 °C wet or dry.
For applications that call for XHHW-2 multiconductor cable, we build stranded copper conductors insulated with thermoset XLPE under a rugged outer jacket, engineered for strong chemical resistance and mechanical toughness in demanding environments.
We also offer a Data Center & Flexible Power Series built with flexible stranded conductors specifically for high-density power distribution, server raceways, and PDU connections.
Common Applications
Engineered for demanding power, control, and signal circuits, multiconductor THHN and XHHW-2 cables perform reliably across indoor conduit runs, data center infrastructure, and open outdoor cable trays. Common applications include:
- Commercial and industrial branch circuit, feeder, and service power distribution
- Data center power distribution, server raceways, and PDU connections
- Industrial automation, control panels, and heavy machinery power
- Cable tray installations, raceways, and conduit systems (Type TC / TC-ER)
- Petrochemical refineries, wastewater treatment facilities, and utility plants
- Class I, Division 2 hazardous locations
- Direct burial and wet or dry industrial locations, where approved
