Armored Cables

Rugged Reliability for Extreme Environments

Armored cables are one of the most common types of electrical cable. They feature a protective sheath that provides mechanical protection against adverse conditions, like tension and outdoor elements. In challenging outdoor installations, industrial settings, and data centers, armor-clad cables ensure reliable signal transmission and uninterrupted power.

Consolidated Electronic Wire & Cable is a trusted manufacturer of type MC (metal clad) and jacketed armored cables. Learn more about the features and applications of our product line below.

Key Features and Benefits of Consolidated Armored Cables

Armored Cables

Armored cables can be distinguished from non-armored types by their metal sheath. This design feature provides reliable durability under rigorous environmental conditions and minimizes electromagnetic interference. Our armor-clad cables feature an interlocking aluminum armor for superior protection.

Underneath the armor is a layer of XLPE insulation for moisture and heat resistance, and a PVC jacket serves as the outermost layer of protection against external damage. Armored cables from Consolidated Electronic Wire & Cable are sunlight-resistant and fit for direct burial. They feature a -40 °C cold bend rating and are a suitable option for Class I Division 2 hazardous locations.

In addition to providing reliable protection against moisture, rodents, impact, and other challenges, our armored cables also meet the following standards and certifications:

  • RoHS Compliance (2002/95/EC, 2011/65/EU, 2015/863/EU)
  • UL VW-1 Flame Test (XHHW-2/VW-1)
  • UL 1569 (Metal Clad Cables)
  • ICEA S-95-658 or ICEA S-73-532
  • UL 1581 & 1202 (FT-4) & ICEA T-29-520

All of our type MC armored cables are manufactured with care in the United States.

Our Type MC Armored Cable Offerings

As a leading armored cable manufacturer, we offer several types of MC armored cables designed for diverse applications.

MCVIGX1/03/X

This type of cable features three conductors of 1/0 AWG, 19-strand bare copper with XLPE insulation. It also has an XLPE-insulated, unshielded bare copper ground and interlocked aluminum armor. The 600V, PVC-jacketed metal-clad cable is suitable for use in sunlight-resistant, direct burial (SUN RES DIR BUR) applications up to 90 °C.

MCVIGX22

The MCVIGX22 features two conductors of 2 AWG, 7-strand bare copper with XLPE insulation. An XLPE-insulated bare copper wire provides unshielded grounding. An interlocked aluminum armor and surrounding PVC jacket enhance durability for this 600V metal-clad cable, which is suitable for use in sunlight-resistant, direct burial (SUN RES DIR BUR) applications up to 90 °C.

MCVIGX82/M1

This 600V metal-clad cable consists of two conductors of 8 AWG, 7-strand bare copper with XLPE insulation. MCVIGX82/M1 armored cables have an XLPE-insulated, unshielded bare copper ground and an interlocked aluminum armor and PVC jacket. They are compatible with sunlight-resistant, direct burial (SUN RES DIR BUR) applications up to 90 °C.

MCVIGX102/M1

Type MCVIGX102/M1 armored cable is a two-conductor, 10 AWG, 7-strand bare copper with XLPE insulation. They feature an XLPE-insulated bare copper ground and an interlocked aluminum armor. A PVC jacket provides an extra layer of protection for these 600V metal-clad cables, which are approved for use in sunlight-resistant, direct burial (SUN RES DIR BUR) applications up to 90 °C.

MCVIGX106

This type of armored cable features six conductors of 10 AWG, 7-strand bare copper with XLPE insulation and an XLPE-insulated bare copper ground. It is unshielded, with a durable, interlocked aluminum armor and a PVC jacket. MCVIGX106 cables are 600V metal-clad cables, suitable for sunlight-resistant, direct burial (SUN RES DIR BUR) applications up to 90 °C.

MCVIGX143/M1

These are three-conductor, 14 AWG, 7-strand bare copper cables with XLPE insulation and an XLPE-insulated bare copper ground. These unshielded, 600V metal-clad cables are protected by interlocked aluminum armor and a PVC jacket, approved for use in sunlight-resistant, direct burial (SUN RES DIR BUR) applications up to 90 °C.
