MC (Metal-Clad) Cables

Discover Consolidated’s high-quality MC (metal-clad) cables. UL-listed metal-clad cables provide superior mechanical protection for commercial & industrial use.

Flexible, Reliable Power & Protection for Demanding Applications

Modern commercial and industrial buildings need power distribution that can be installed faster than rigid conduits, without sacrificing protection for the conductors inside. Metal-clad (type MC) cable has become the standard answer to that problem. This cable design combines a flexible interlocked armor with insulated conductors, so electricians can route power through walls, ceilings, and industrial spaces in a fraction of the time a traditional pipe-and-wire job would take.

Consolidated Electronic Wire & Cable has manufactured electronic wire and cable products for more than 100 years. As a trusted MC cable manufacturer, we provide UL-listed jacketed metal-clad cable used in commercial, industrial, and hazardous-location installations across the country. Below, we walk through what makes our MC cable line different, the configurations we offer, and where these products get used most.

Key Benefits and Features of Our MC Cables

Armored Cables

MC cable earns its name from its metal-clad, interlocked armor design. Consolidated Electronic Wire & Cable’s MC cable uses an interlocked aluminum or galvanized steel armor wrapped around XLPE-insulated conductors for heat and moisture resistance, with an optional overall PVC jacket that adds protection for wet locations, direct burial, and sunlight-exposed runs.

This armored design is what makes it durable enough for rugged environments while staying flexible enough to bend around obstacles a rigid conduit run couldn’t handle. Because it eliminates a separate conduit installation step, our type MC cable can cut labor time and material costs significantly on both new construction and retrofit projects.

Our metallic cables are built to the following:

  • Metal-Clad Cables listed to the UL standard governing metal-clad cable construction.
  • NEC compliance. Suitable for commercial and industrial applications per the National Electrical Code.
  • Direct burial and sunlight resistance. Jacketed metal-clad cable rated SUN RES DIR BUR up to 90 °C.
  • Class I, Division 2 hazardous location approval. Suitable where applicable.
  • RoHS compliance. Meets 2002/95/EC, 2011/65/EU, and 2015/863/EU.
  • Made in the USA. Manufactured domestically.

Our Type MC Cable Offerings

We stock standard interlocked MC cable in all gauges across the full scope of multi-conductor configurations with bare or insulated ground, built for standard branch circuit wiring. Representative configurations include a 2 AWG, 2-conductor cable with bare copper ground and interlocked aluminum armor, and a 10 AWG, 6-conductor cable rated for 600V with the same armor and insulation package.
For wet or outdoor applications, our jacketed metal-clad cable adds an extruded PVC jacket over the armor. We offer 1/0 AWG, 3-conductor configurations; 8 AWG, 2-conductor configurations; 14 AWG, 7-conductor options; and more for demanding outdoor conditions.

Common Applications

Because metal-clad cable offers robust protection against mechanical damage while retaining flexibility, it’s the go-to solution across a wide range of environments, from standard commercial walls to rugged industrial facilities. Common uses for our MC armored cable products include:

  • Commercial and institutional building wiring for branch, feeder, and service power distribution
  • Industrial facilities and manufacturing plants
  • Data centers and other critical IT infrastructure
  • Power, lighting, control, and signal circuits
  • Cable fished or embedded in plaster
  • Class I, Division 2 hazardous locations
  • Direct burial and outdoor installations (jacketed MC variants)
