Category and LAN Cables

Divided into eight or more categories, Category and LAN cables interconnect computers and hardware to form a local area network (LAN). These types of cables are used in basically any area that uses computers, such as commercial buildings, homes, offices, universities, and more. The most common CAT5 and CAT6 cables are standard in applications like office networks.

Extruded Flat Cable

Extruded flat cables are extruded in continuous lengths and are typically in PVC jackets for durability and integrity. 

Coax

A coax cable is a type of transmission line offering high performance for voice, data, radio, and video communications at up to very high frequencies. Coax cables use a copper core to rapidly transmit data, surrounded by a dielectric insulator and shielding that prevents damage and interference.

Fire Alarm Cable

Fire alarm cable is approved by the National Electrical Code (NEC) for smoke detectors, home alarm systems, fire alarms, signaling, critical circuit control, power limited circuit cable, voice communications, and more. It uses solid bare conductors and may be twisted to improve flexibility. The cable may also include aluminum shielding and a drain wire made from solid tinned copper, along with Plenum and Riser versions.

Hook-Up and Lead Wire

Made for low current and voltage applications typically up to 600V or less, hook up wires have a single conductor with insulation. Common types of hook up wire include PTFE lead wire, MIL-SPEC lead wire, and irradiated lead wire. Applications that are exposed to harsh conditions often utilize PTFE coated hook up wire, but other material options include neoprene, silicone, PVC, EPDM, and more. Hook-up and lead wire are primarily used in electronic equipment and can meet standards like CSA and UL.

Magnet Wire

Magnet wires are insulated copper conductors used to wind generators, transformers, coils, motors, and other devices where mechanical energy is generated from electrical energy. 

Multi-Conductor/Multi-Pair

These are cables consisting of more than one conductor. They can contain anywhere from 2 conductors to 100 or more. They can be twisted to form pairs, triads, or quads and laid concentrically within the cable. Custom cable constructions can control environmental factors, electrical performance, voltage, temperature, and other factors. Depending on the application, optional shielding (spirals, braids, or foil) is available.

Parallel Cord and Speaker Wire

Parallel cord is a flat, UL-listed, PVC insulated SPT-1 or SPT-2 cord. Sometimes called zip-cord, it is used in floor lamps and table lamps. Speaker wire is designed for sound systems. It connects the audio amplifier to the home speaker system. Sound quality and clarity depend on high-quality speaker wire.

Portable Cord/Power Cable

Portable cord is ideal for temporary power supply applications. It is flexible and has two or more conductors. Depending on the intended usage, the jacket, insulation, and stranding vary. A portable cord may be made for harsh environments, including resistance to weather, abrasion, chemicals, and oil. Some also resist water with the voltage rating marked by an “S” for 600V and “J” for 300V in designations SJ00W and S00W the designation “J” indicates a 300V rating. Without a “J” the rating is 600V. 

Power Limited Tray Cable

Used in power-limited circuits, these cables are NEC compliant and rated for 300V. Sometimes called PLTC cables, they are also used in cash registers, intercoms, business machines, and alarm systems.

Tinned Copper Braid

Composed of tight woven soft drawn tinned copper wire, tinned copper braid is constructed as a tube for the required width. It can be terminated easily and is ideal for many uses including shielding short runs of wire bundle as well as low impedance ground path. Tin copper braid also has excellent flexibility.

Uninsulated Wire

Uninsulated wire is suitable for numerous applications, including situations that require magnet wire, armature wire, or electrical wire. Uninsulated wire has a thin insulation or plating and is exceptionally conductive and inexpensive.

Low Loss

Low loss coaxial cables, or coax cables, are used in various transmission applications such as Wi-Fi, cable television, digital audio, radio frequency networks, cellular networks, Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN), and several other systems that need low signal attenuation.
